The Fishing Cat

(If the cow of a story climb the tree, then why the cat of the story cannot dive in a pond and catch a fish?)

Translation of Bengali Story

Duska, Maya, Sansa, Dolly, Mitchell, Shibu, Maina, Twinkle, Laila. These ten live in one room at a time. All nine brothers and sisters with their mother and father stayed together. The people of the village used to call their house a haunted house.




One day, the father brought and brought many fish heads and fish thorns, etc. from a grand marriage house in the village. Mother cooked rice and everyone sat down to eat fish and rice at noon. The cooking was yummy and all enjoyed the lunch. After finishing lunch, the mother sat on cleaning the kitchen. The children went to their respective beds to have some rest. Then Dushka, Maya, Mitchell, and Dolly got together and whispered to each other, "Hey, today Dad is in a very good mood today, let's ask him to tell us a good story."

As soon as said, instantly it worked, everyone got around the father. Dad, in a pleasant mood, called all and said, today I tell you the story of this house. Dushka called Maina, Shibu, and Maina to listen to the story, Twinkle and Laila were already sleeping.

Once upon a time, I caught a very big fish and will tell that story to you. You see the pond in front of the house, it was very big at that time and there used to be waves in the pond like sea waves. There was a very big fish in the pond which used to eat all other fish in the pond, even men were afraid of the big fish. It was so big and so strong that no man could catch it. Not only that, if someone comes near the water of the Pond, but the big fish also used to jump and terrorize him, and therefore, all were afraid to come to the pond for water.

One day three young boys came to the pond and were playing ball sitting on the pond. The fish was sleeping at the base of the Pond. The children were laughing and shouting in play, and the fish woke up from sleep with the sound of a laugh. The bad big fish became very angry, it jumped out of the water and terrorized the kids. The kids got scared and two of them ran away. The youngest of them, he was very cute and small. He tried to run, but he slipped and fell into the water and started screaming in terror. His friends who run away are also screaming for help. The fish was enraged at the noise and opened his big mouth, and oh, he swallowed the little small child completely as you might usually a fish ball.  After swallowing the small child, the fish went into the water and fell asleep again.

I was also sleeping but the screams of the children woke me up. I saw the fish swallowing the kid and got very angry. You know, the tiger in the forest is my elder brother and is very powerful. I just chanted his name, asked for his power to be in me, and went to the Pond. I shouted on the fish, "hey, you bad bully fish, give the child back otherwise I will kill you!"  The fish did not respond thinking I was afraid of him and cannot do anything. I became angry and jumped into the water. I went down in the water, caught the fish with a bite full of force, and came up and brought the fish out of water.  In fact, when the fish swallowed the small child, it was not able to move well also though it tried to free itself from me and tried to hit me with its tail. But I had the power of Tiger and defeated the fish. I carefully slit his stomach with my teeth and nails. The baby boy was still alive. The boy got out of his stomach and washed his face and hands. Just at that time, there was lots of noise and people from the village came to rescue him. They were happy to see the child alive. The child told them that I had saved him and people started praising me. Then, the headman of the village said to me, "Listen, this house is yours from now on, as long as you want to stay, you will be here. Whenever there is any celebration in the village and fish is cooked, you will get free fish from that house."

And children, I am here in this house since then.

Dushka was naughty, and asked, "Dad, everyone knows we cats cannot swim, we cannot dive in the water, then how you got to the bottom and caught the fish?"
Dad scolded all, "When we were young, we did not waste our time like you on mobile games, songs, and movies. We used to do all exercises and knew swimming. Besides, whenever we called for the power of our elder brother Tiger, we became more powerful."

And Dad closed his eyes, went to sleep, and asked all to go their bed and take rest.
